5 cattle rescued from smugglers at India-Bangla border in Assam

On Monday morning, five cattle were recovered from Kesarvita village in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district near the India-Bangladesh border by a combined operation conducted by South Salmara Mankachar police and a BSF detachment. The smugglers fled after observing the security guards, according to authorities.

The hunt for the perpetrators has begun. Earlier on Monday, police in Assam’s Sonitpur district confiscated 120 grammes of heroin and detained three people, including a lady, authorities said. On Sunday night, a Sonitpur district police squad stopped a car near Tezpur’s Kaliabhomora bridge and seized 120 grammes of heroin.

Earlier this month, the 42nd Assam Rifles and a Champhai Police squad found 119 grammes of heroin worth over Rs 59 lakh from a car during a random check on Sunday. The Joint team found 119 grammes (9 soap cases) of heroin, worth at over Rs 59 lakh in the international market, from a vehicle while performing random checks on the outskirts of Mualkawi hamlet (Zokhawthar road) in the Champhai district of Mizoram.

A large cache of rifles and ammunition was seized in Assam’s Nalbari region during a combined operation conducted by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men and Assam Police. Sudhakar Singh, Superintendent of Police for the Nalbari district, told ANI that during the search, security officers discovered a large stash of rifles and ammunition buried beneath the ground.
