Over 88 million self-portraits featuring national flag shared on Har Ghar Tiranga website, a three-day initiative.

Over 88 million self-portraits featuring the national flag were shared on the central government’s “Har Ghar Tiranga” website by noon on Independence Day. This surge occurred within the framework of a three-day initiative launched following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call on Sunday. The website’s main page provides an option to upload selfies with the flag and indicates that a staggering 88,121,591 (88 million) of these selfies were submitted by noon on Tuesday.

The objective of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign is to encourage people to display the national flag at their residences from August 13 to 15, as part of the celebrations for the 77th Independence Day. The website offers two avenues for sharing content: uploading selfies with the flag and showcasing digital representations of the tricolor. While scrolling down, users can view photographs of notable figures such as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former cricketer Parthiv Patel, actor Anupam Kher, and singer Kailash Kher, all pictured with the Indian flag.

This campaign, introduced by PM Modi on July 22 of the previous year as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ celebrating 75 years of Indian independence, was further highlighted by the Prime Minister on Sunday. He urged individuals to modify their social media profile pictures to feature the Tricolour in solidarity with the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement. PM Modi himself adjusted his display picture to reflect the national flag, contributing to the campaign’s promotion.

As part of an eventful week, union ministers participated in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ bike rally around the Pragati Maidan region in Delhi. The rally, the campaign’s second iteration, was inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and proceeded along Mathura Road, Bhairon Road, India Gate, and the Pragati Maidan tunnel. Videos shared by ANI depicted Kishan Reddy steering the bike with Anurag Thakur holding the Indian flag behind him, accompanied by chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai.’ Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje from Karnataka also participated in the bike rally.

Independence Day celebrations unfolded across the nation, with the Prime Minister raising the national flag at the Red Fort on Tuesday morning. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, ministers, and schoolchildren, marking a significant moment of national pride.
