The summit focuses on vital topics, including regional security, economic collaboration, and the fight against terrorism.

India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, is also among the participants. Notably, hailed the SCO Summit in Islamabad as highly productive, asserting that India played a constructive role in the discussions. The summit, hosted by Pakistan, saw Jaishankar sign eight key outcome documents, reflecting India’s active participation in shaping the regional agenda.

Senior Congress leader Dr. Karan Singh shared his perspectives in an exclusive interview with NewsX on the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and the recent formation of the new government in Jammu and Kashmir. His reflections shed light on the current political climate in the region and the potential for future relations between India and Pakistan.

Addressing remarks made by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari regarding the necessity of bilateral talks, Dr. Singh expressed his agreement. “I welcome his thought. It seems like Pakistan has felt that enmity with India is not good. Bilateral talks should happen. But first, they should stop sending terrorists to India,” he stated firmly.

A New Chapter In Jammu And Kashmir Politics

On the other hand, turning his attention to the political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Singh noted the significance of Omar Abdullah taking the oath as Chief Minister. “Today, Omar Abdullah is taking oath as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Congress has decided not to be part of the government, opting instead to offer external support to the National Conference’s government,” he explained.

Reflecting on the recent elections, Dr. Singh expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the electoral process. “I am very happy that free and fair elections happened in Jammu and Kashmir. It occurred without any accidents, which is a very big deal considering terror warnings,” he remarked. Dr. Singh acknowledged the reality of Congress securing only six seats in the assembly, leading to the decision to support the government from outside. “Without them, Congress is in the minority. That’s why Congress’s top leader decided to support from outside. The big deal is that a stable government should be formed. The government should complete its term and function for five years,” he articulated. His focus on stability reflects a broader hope for the region’s governance.

Moreover, Dr. Singh expressed optimism about the potential restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. He noted, “Jammu and Kashmir had a rich legacy and was known as the crown jewel of India.”

Support For Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

On the topic of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s political debut in Wayanad, Dr. Singh shared his personal connection to the Gandhi family. “I have worked with all four generations of the Gandhi family. I have seen Rahul and Priyanka grow since their childhood,” he reflected warmly.
