The lead actor of Pushpa 2, Allu Arjun, has been given regular bail in a theatre stampede case. This stampede took place during a screening of the movie, due to overcrowding, which caused unfortunate casualties. The actor was granted bail on two sureties bonds, each worth Rs 50,000.
Telangana High Court granted interim bail to Allu Arjun after he was taken into custody by the Chikkadpally police in connection with the stampede at Sandhya Theater during the benefit show of Pushpa 2 on December 4. After the Nampally court had ordered remand for 14 days, the actor was first sent to Cherlapally jail, but later he was released as he managed to get interim bail from the High Court.
The stampede took place at Sandhya Theatre as a gigantic crowd gathered there to catch a glimpse of Allu Arjun, who came to the theatre to attend the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule. Chaos gripped the place as the actor waved at the fans from the sunroof of his car, thereby accidentally creating panic among the mass. In the stampede that followed, a 35-year-old woman named Revathi lost her life, while an eight-year-old son received serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
In the aftermath, a complaint was filed by the woman’s family, and a case was registered at the Chikkadpally police station. The complaint named Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
After the accident, Allu Arjun was arrested on 13 December by the city police in connection with the death. The actor was released from custody on 14 December after Telangana High Court granted him four-week interim bail on the same day.
During the hearing, the complainant brought up concerns about the role of the police in the tragedy. The complainant mentioned the alleged lathi charge by the Chikkadpally police, who had accompanied the actor. According to the complainant, police action, combined with inadequate crowd management arrangements, led to the fatal stampede and injuries to the woman and her children.
As the investigation unfolds, Allu Arjun has been questioned in this case. Nevertheless, he regretted the mishap and expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the lives, but he assured of his cooperation to the authorities at any cost.
