Union Minister for Home Affairs, Amit Shah, has scheduled an all-party meeting on June 24 in New Delhi to address the current situation in Manipur. This marks the Centre’s first attempt to engage political parties from across the political spectrum on this pressing issue.
The meeting has been called due to the ongoing ethnic conflicts in Manipur since May 3, leading to the loss of 110 lives. The persistent violence and deepening ethnic divides have brought the BJP governments in the state and Central under scrutiny, with multiple opposition parties condemning their actions.
As stated by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs in a Twitter announcement on Wednesday evening, the Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, has scheduled an all-party meeting on June 24 at 3 PM in New Delhi to address the situation in Manipur.
The announcement is noteworthy as it was made shortly after the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, convenor of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA). The NDA’s northeast chapter met with Shah in New Delhi. Additionally, on June 10, Sarma visited Imphal, where he held discussions with Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other regional political leaders.
