Amit Shah Launches National Co-operative Database

The National Cooperative Database was launched by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah in the National Capital on Friday, aimed at gathering crucial information about India’s extensive cooperative sector. Shah emphasized that this initiative, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahakar se Samriddhi,” would accelerate the growth of the cooperative sector.

Accompanying the launch was the release of the ‘National Cooperative Database 2023: A Report’. The Ministry of Cooperation recognized the necessity for a robust database to capture vital information about India’s cooperative sector, acknowledging the efforts of those involved in its completion over the past two years.

The event witnessed the participation of approximately 1,400 individuals, including Secretaries and senior officers from central ministries, as well as officials from states, Union Territories (UTs), Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCSs), cooperative societies, federations, and unions nationwide. A technical workshop was conducted to familiarize participants with the National Cooperative Database (NCD) and its potential to enhance the cooperative landscape in India.

The NCD, a web-based digital dashboard, houses data from cooperative societies, including national and state federations.

The database has aggregated information from around eight lakh cooperatives, with a collective membership exceeding 29 crores across various sectors nationwide. It includes details such as registered names, dates, locations, membership numbers, sectoral information, operational areas, economic activities, financial statements, and audit statuses.

The National Cooperative Database facilitates efficient communication among central ministries, states, UTs, and cooperative societies, providing comprehensive contact details for registered societies to streamline interaction with government entities.

Offering numerous benefits, including single-point access, updated data, user-friendly interface, vertical and horizontal linkages, query-based reports, Management Information System (MIS) reports, data analytics, and geographical mapping, the database enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the cooperative sector. Its success hinges on collaborative efforts, accurate data collection, and strategic utilization to identify gaps and inform policy decisions, fostering transparency and collaboration within the cooperative sector.
