Amritpal Singh, the leader of ‘Waris Punjab De,’ has been transferred to Dibrugarh jail in Assam under tight security.
Singh was apprehended by police in Punjab’s Moga district early Sunday morning and flown to Assam’s Dibrugarh Airport in the afternoon.
“From there, he has been shifted to a prison in Dibrugarh,” officials said. According to officials, security has been tightened in Assam. Amritpal Singh was on the run since March 18, the day Punjab Police launched a massive manhunt for him.
Other associates of Khalistan sympathiser and radical preacher Amritpal Singh are also being held at the Dibrugarh jail, according to officials.
Papalpreet Singh, a close aide to the fugitive Khalistan leader, was arrested on April 11 and taken to Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail.
Earlier this month, pro-Khalistan supporters and Amritpal Singh associates were moved out of Punjab after Central Intelligence agencies expressed concern about a possible jailbreak and repeat of the Ajnala incident.
