On Tuesday, the Odisha government suspended senior IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao for allegedly abusing his power and committing “grave misconduct.” He is accused of forcibly entering the home of a married woman inspector and misbehaving with her and her husband on July 27. Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh stated that the police will take action if a formal complaint is filed.

The state home department released an order stating that the DGP of Odisha had submitted a confidential report about Pandit regarding the incident. The order said that a disciplinary proceeding was being considered due to Pandit’s serious misconduct. Consequently, the Odisha government has suspended Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, IPS, with immediate effect.
A statement from the Chief Minister’s office mentioned that a complaint had been received, alleging that Pandit misused his power and disgraced his position on the night of July 27.
After returning from a four-day visit to New Delhi on Monday evening, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi acted quickly, instructing the relevant department to suspend the “errant senior police officer immediately and take appropriate action.”
While suspended, Uttamrao will be stationed at the state police headquarters in Cuttack, Odisha. He cannot leave the headquarters without permission from the DGP. He will receive a subsistence allowance during his suspension, provided he certifies that he is not involved in any other work or business.
