J&K targeted killings: LeT’s Arbaz Ahmad Mir declared as terrorist

A member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Arbaz Ahmad Mir, has been labelled as terrorist under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act of 1967 because of his role in the targeted killings in Jammu and Kashmir, which included Rajni Bala, a female teacher.

The Jammu and Kashmir-born Mir, who is now residing in Pakistan and operating for LeT from across the border, was revealed by the MHA in a late Friday night notification. Mir has been identified as the primary suspect in the murder of one female teacher, Rajni Bala, in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Mir engages in targeted killings.

He is also involved in planning terrorist attacks in the Kashmir Valley and aiding terrorists by bringing illegal weapons, ammo, and explosives across the border, according to the notification.

Rajni Bala of Jammu was fatally shot outside of Government High School, Gopalpora, in the Kulgam district on May 31, 2022.

Mir, the son of Manzoor Ahmad Mir, is from Gufbal village in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the report, Mir is involved in terrorism coordination in the Kashmir valley and provides support to terrorists by bringing illegal weapons, ammunition, and explosives across the border.

In accordance with the authority granted by section 35 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967, the notice said that “The Central Government considers that Arbaz Ahmad Mir is involved in terrorism and he is to be listed as a terrorist.”

Mir will become the 51st person to be classified as a terrorist after being added to the Fourth Schedule under the UAPA, it said.

The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967 was passed to address dealing with terrorist acts and issues related to them as well as to more effectively prohibit some unlawful activities of people and organisations.
