Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) inaugurated the 3-day ‘Chintan Shivir cum Education Conclave 2024’, themed ‘Shikshit Arunachal – Viksit Arunachal’, at the DK Convention Centre in Itanagar on Thursday.

In his inaugural address, the Governor urged all stakeholders to develop a physical, mental, and moral foundation for students to mold them into good citizens who will be ‘Shiksit, Anushasit, Prerit aur Viksit’ (educated, disciplined, inspired, and advanced). This, in turn, will aid in transforming ‘Shiksit Arunachal’ into ‘Viksit Arunachal’.

The Governor emphasized the impact and importance of education, stating that formal education is essential for gaining the knowledge and skills needed to become a better person and create a better society. He said, “Proper education enables personal, professional, and social growth. It fosters joy, curiosity, and a strong desire to pursue leadership roles and positively impact those around us.”

“Education is the most powerful means for social transformation, and universities, colleges, and schools must play a role in driving change,” the Arunachal Pradesh Governor added.

He highlighted the ‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’, emphasizing that teachers are at the heart of all educational efforts. Teachers must instruct, explain, demonstrate, and inspire their students. The Governor suggested implementing impactful and innovative training programs for teachers.

The Governor called for the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and stressed the roles of various stakeholders in improving education. “NEP 2020 advocates for a holistic, integrated, enjoyable, and engaging curriculum, emphasizing the development of critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills,” he said.

He advised creating a curriculum that reflects the principles of NEP 2020 while incorporating the rich cultural heritage and history of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Governor also spoke about the Mission ‘National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy’ (NIPUN Bharat), Prime Minister Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI Schools), and innovative digital initiatives. He mentioned that by adopting best practices and innovative approaches, educational institutions could set new benchmarks for excellence.

The Governor commended the State Education Minister and officials for organizing the education conclave and expressed hope that it would be a cornerstone in strengthening the educational framework of the state. He appealed to participants to actively engage in meaningful discussions and deliberations, focusing on the comprehensive development of education in Arunachal Pradesh.

State Education Minister P.D. Sona, MLA cum Advisor to the Education Minister Mutchu Mithi, Commissioner of Education Amjad Tak, and Secretary of Education Duly Kanduk also spoke at the inaugural session.

State Minister Ojing Tasing, MLAs, Deputy Commissioners, Deputy Directors of School Education, principals of higher secondary schools, headmasters, state-level functionaries, professors, scholars, and representatives from various NGOs and educational organizations attended the session.
