Senior political leader Arvinder Singh Lovely has been officially appointed as the pro-tem Speaker of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. The appointment was confirmed through an order issued by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Friday.

As per the notification published in the Delhi Gazette, Lovely will assume the role of pro-tem Speaker from February 24, 2025, overseeing the first session of the newly elected Assembly. His primary duties will include administering the oath or affirmation to the newly elected members, as per Section 12 of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991. He will also preside over Assembly proceedings until a permanent Speaker is elected.

His appointment comes at a crucial time as the Assembly prepares for key discussions and legislative matters. With his experience in governance and parliamentary affairs, Lovely is expected to ensure smooth proceedings during the initial phase of the session.
