ASI Continues Gyanvapi Complex Survey On 5th Day Amidst Heightened Security

As the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) progresses with its comprehensive examination of the Gyanvapi complex, an advocate representing the Hindu perspective has indicated that the survey activities will commence at 8 am today, emphasizing that the dome’s examination has not been concluded yet.

Advocate Sudhir Tripathi, speaking to the media, shared, “The survey is scheduled to begin at 8 am today. It appears that the dome’s survey has not reached completion. The ‘Tahkhana’ section is also under survey. Photography and videography necessitate the removal of debris before proceeding.”

Given the ongoing ASI survey at the Gyanvapi mosque complex, heightened security measures have been put in place.

Rekha Pathak, a petitioner from the Hindu side, remarked on the ongoing ASI survey, expressing excitement about the possibility of the ‘Tahkhana’ area being opened for investigation. She shared, “We eagerly await the survey. It has become our daily routine to rise early and engage in our duties. That’s how connected we feel. Our role is to oversee. The survey begins at 8 am and continues until 5 pm.”

The scientific inquiry into the complex, situated next to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, commenced the previous Friday, following the directive from the Allahabad High Court. The court’s decision permitted the ASI to undertake a thorough examination to ascertain whether the 17th-century mosque was constructed atop a pre-existing Hindu temple structure.

In a development last Thursday, the Allahabad High Court dismissed a plea presented by the Muslim side, the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee. The plea contested the Varanasi court’s decision to allow the ASI to conduct a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque area, excluding the ‘Wazukhana’ region where a “Shivling” was purportedly discovered the previous year.
