Bengal Government And Vandalism: IMA’s Take On The Collapse Of Public Order

After an unidentified mob vandalized RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) issued a statement condemning the violence. The IMA criticized the state government, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing it of being directly responsible for the breakdown of public order.

“RG Kar Medical College, which has been under national scrutiny following the rape and murder of a Chest medicine PG student, has been vandalized by hooligans. The protesting young medical students have been targeted. The authorities, who failed to prevent such a heinous crime, have once again failed to maintain law and order, especially while crucial CBI investigations are ongoing,” the IMA stated.

“This vandalism with impunity indicates anarchy and a breakdown of law and order. The state government is directly responsible for this collapse in public order. The IMA condemns this senseless violence and is concerned about the potential loss of crucial evidence. We have called for an emergency consultation meeting with all our state branches today to plan further action,” the IMA added.

Meanwhile, Suhrita Pal, the newly appointed principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, stated that she has no information about the individuals responsible for the vandalism. “If you know anything, please let me know. I don’t have any information about them,” she said.

Following Wednesday’s mob violence during a protest over the rape and murder of a female doctor, nurses at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have demanded increased security. They said, “We need security; we don’t want to compromise patient care.”

A hospital staff member, speaking to ANI, broke down while recounting the incident. “Some people came, broke everything, and then left. Despite the presence of police, these people caused damage. This is a very distressing incident. When I arrived at 4:00 am, everything was destroyed. This is my workplace, and it makes me feel like crying to see this. Many poor people come here, and I feel deeply for them.”
