The Bihar Forest and Environment department is set to host the three-day Nagi Bird Festival in Jamui starting this Saturday. Bandana Preyasi, Secretary of the Forest Department, announced to ANI that following the success of an international bird workshop, the Bihar government is initiating the Nagi festival in Jamui with the aim of bolstering bird conservation efforts and raising awareness about migratory birds and their habitats.
Preyasi emphasized that the primary objective of the festival is to raise public awareness about these migratory birds, which play a crucial role in the ecosystem. Additionally, the festival intends to boost tourism as these birds, rare in their occurrence, typically inhabit the area for approximately two and a half months, making it a significant eco-tourism destination.
“Our immediate goal is to educate people about these birds and their conservation, while also fostering eco-tourism that can generate employment opportunities for locals. They could potentially work as guides for wildlife enthusiasts and tourists,” she elaborated.
Preyasi also highlighted the government’s commitment to curbing bird hunting and illegal trafficking through various initiatives.
