The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Saturday claimed to have apprehended one of the primary suspects in the Chhapra fake liquor case, which claimed the lives of over 70 people earlier this month.
According to police, the culprit, Ram Babu Mahto, was nabbed in the Dwarka neighbourhood and was previously engaged in seven other crimes.
“Information was received and developed by Inter-State Cell, Crime Branch, Chankyapuri, Delhi that one Ram Babu Mahto sought in case relating to fake liquor disaster in Bihar, may be hiding someplace in Delhi,” said special Commissioner of Police (CP) Crime Branch Ravinder Yadav.
“The accused Ram Babu Mahto from Bihar’s Doila was detained from the vicinity of Dwarka in Delhi based on technical surveillance as well as particular intelligence,” added Yadav.
“Adequate legal action is being taken, and information about the accused’s arrest has been communicated with Bihar Police for future action,” CP Yadav added.
Yadav went on to say that the Bihar Police were called, and it was discovered that accused Ram Babu Mahto is one of the most sought people in the 2022 case under the Bihar Excise Act-2016, which was lodged at Police Station Mashrak, District Saran in Bihar.
