Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, a senior leader and the party’s vice president, was fired by the Biju Janta Dal (BJD).
The reason for dismissing him from the position has not been given by the party. According to the Biju Janta Dal’s official order, “Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Vice-President is hereby removed from the post with immediate effect.”
Party leaders have been harshly criticizing the MLA from Khandapada and Editor of the Odia Daily “Sambad” for his alleged critical comments in the media and editorials challenging the public grievance program run by the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary, VK Pandian, and the operation of the Odisha Government.
Odisha holds its assembly elections concurrently with its parliamentary elections.
The state has 147 Assembly seats and 21 Lok Sabha seats on which state and Lok Sabha elections are conducted.
In March 2018, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik joined the Biju Janta Dal and was elected to the Rajya Sabha. Later, he ran for the Khandapada seat in the 2019 Assembly election and was elected.
