Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni visits India for maiden state visit

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni is on a three-day state visit to India, his first since ascending to the throne in 2004. The visit comes as the two countries mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

King Sihamoni was greeted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on his arrival in New Delhi on May 29. He was also accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the Indian president. During his visit, King Sihamoni will hold talks with Prime Minister Modi and other senior Indian officials. He is also expected to visit the Taj Mahal and other historical sites in India.

The visit is seen as an opportunity to strengthen the ties between Cambodia and India. The two countries have a long history of cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and culture.

In a statement, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said that the visit would “contribute to further strengthening and consolidating the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.”

India is a major development partner for Cambodia, providing assistance in areas such as infrastructure, education, and health. The two countries also have strong trade ties, with India being Cambodia’s second-largest trading partner.

The visit of King Sihamoni is expected to further boost the relationship between Cambodia and India. The two countries are likely to discuss ways to deepen their cooperation in a number of areas, including trade, investment, and culture.
