CEC Meet Today To Conclude Selection of Additional Lok Sabha Candidates

The Congress party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) is scheduled to conduct its second meeting at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi on Monday evening, as per party sources. Chaired by the national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, the meeting is set to include the participation of Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party MP Rahul Gandhi.

The agenda for the meeting, commencing at 6 pm, will focus on discussions pertaining to Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh, according to party insiders. The Congress party had previously unveiled its initial list of candidates for 39 Lok Sabha constituencies on March 8, with the names covering regions such as Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshwadeep, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, and Tripura.

Among the announced candidates, 16 hail from Kerala, seven from Karnataka, six from Chhattisgarh, and four from Telangana. Additionally, there are two candidates from Meghalaya, and one each from Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, and Lakshadweep. This list was disclosed following the first Central Election Committee meeting held on March 7.

During a press conference, KC Venugopal highlighted that out of the 39 candidates, 15 belong to the General category, while 24 represent SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities. In contrast, the BJP had previously released its inaugural list of 195 candidates. The Lok Sabha elections are anticipated to take place in April-May of this year.
