On Monday, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice announced the appointment of various judicial officials and lawyers to the High Courts of Allahabad, Karnataka, and Madras as Additional Judges.
Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Law and Justice on Monday wished them the best of luck and tweeted “As per relevant provisions under the Constitution of India, the following Advocates and Judicial Officers are appointed as Additional Judges of Allahabad High Court, Karnataka High Court and Madras High Court. All of them have my best wishes.” The government announced the appointment of 13 judges and advocates to the three High Courts.
The notification stated that “in the exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Syed Qamar Hasan Rizvi, Manish Kumar Nigam, Anish Kumar Gupta, Nand Prabha Shukla, Kshitij Shailendra, and Vinod Diwakar to be Additional Judges of Allahabad High Court, in that order of seniority for a period of two years, with effect from
The Centre Government nominated Advocates Lekshmana Chandra Victoria Gowri, Pillaipakkam Bahukutumbi Balaji, Kandhasami Kulandaivelu Ramakrishnan, and Judicial Officers Ramachandra Kalaimathi and K Govindarajan Thilakavadi as Additional Judges in Madras High Court on Monday. According to the announcement released by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Advocates Vijaykumar Adagouda, Patil, and Rajesh Rai Kallangala were also promoted as Additional Judges of the Karnataka High Court.
Surprisingly, just minutes after the Law Minister’s tweet announced the appointment, the Supreme Court decided to hear a petition on Friday challenging the collegium’s decision to suggest elevating attorney Victoria Gowri to the position of Madras High Court judge. A group of Tamil Nadu attorneys recently petitioned President Draupadi Murmu to reject the Supreme Court collegium’s decision to elevate counsel Victoria Gowri to the Madras High Court.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud administered the oath of office to the five new Supreme Court justices on Monday. President Droupadi Murmu signed the warrants to appoint five new Supreme Court justices on Saturday. The new judges were sworn in today (Monday) at the Supreme Court during a ceremony.
Rajasthan High Court (HC) Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal, Patna High Court (HC) Chief Justice Sanjay Karol, Manipur High Court (HC) Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court (HC) judge Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, and Allahabad High Court (HC) judge Justice Manoj Misra were sworn in as top court judges.
On December 13, last year, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended these persons for advancement.
