Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised on education during her budget speech for fiscal year 2023-24, announcing a slew of crucial measures for the field. She stated in her budget address that the Centre will hire 38,000 teachers and other staff for the 740 model Eklavya Model Residential Schools, which serve 3.4 lakh tribal students. She also announced the establishment of 157 new nursing colleges across the country to help the health sector.

She also spoke about teacher training, saying that it will be reimagined through innovative pedagogy, curriculum transaction, continuous professional development dipstick survey, and iCT implementation.

The finance minister also stated that the government will hire 38,000 teachers and other staff for the 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools, which will serve 3.4 lakh tribal students.

“A national digital library for Children and adolescents will be created to facilitate the availability of quality books across geographies, languages genres and levels, and device-agnostic accessibility. States will be urged to set up physical libraries at Panchayat and all levels to provide infrastructure for accessing the National Digital Library resources,” said the Finance Minister.

To foster a reading culture and compensate for pandemic time learning loss, the National Book Trust, Children’s Book Trust, and other organisations will be encouraged to give books and other materials in regional languages as well as English to these physical libraries.

The minister also stated that a specialised multidisciplinary course on medical devices will be sponsored in the institutions in order to assure the availability of trained workers for futuristic medical technology, as well as high-end production and research.

A new programme to support pharmaceutical research and innovation will be launched.

Mr. Pradhan Mantri According to the Finance Minister, the Kaushal Vikash Yojana 4.0 would be introduced soon. Industry engagement and course alignment with industry needs will be emphasised in the PM Kaushal Vikaas Yoajna 4.0.

The scheme will also include new age courses for industry 4.0 such as coding, AI, robotics, mechatronics, IoT, 3D printing drones, and other soft skills to prepare youth for international opportunities. According to the Finance Minister, 30 skill India international centres will be established across various states. To give skills for foreign employment, 30 Skill India International Centres would be established.
