A day after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini successfully passed the floor test during a special session of the state assembly on Wednesday.
Speaking in the State Assembly, Saini expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing his humble background and attributing his political knowledge to former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Saini acknowledged learning even the minutest details from Khattar and emphasized the unique opportunities available in the BJP.
The Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra had formally staked his claim to form the government on Tuesday by meeting Governor Bandaru Dattatreya. Saini, replacing his predecessor Khattar, was sworn in as the Chief Minister during a ceremony at Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh.
Four BJP leaders—Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Jai Parkash Dalal, Moolchand Sharma, and Banwari Lal—also took the oath as ministers in the Haryana cabinet. Additionally, independent MLA Ranjit Singh was administered the oath by Governor Bandaru Dattatreya in the presence of former CM Khattar.
Asserting that the BJP-led government in the state has the support of a total of 48 MLAs, Saini indicated that the Speaker had been urged to conduct the floor test on Wednesday.
The breakdown of the BJP and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) alliance, leading to the resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, was attributed to the JJP leaders’ demands over seat allocation for the Lok Sabha polls.
Nayab Saini, an influential figure within the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, serves as the BJP’s Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra. Appointed as the party’s state chief in October of the previous year, he enjoys a close relationship with Khattar, whose second consecutive term concludes this year.
