Chilling Breezes Expected To Sweep North India This Week

It is difficult to predict the weather in northern India in winter 2023-24, indicating a transition from El Niño to La Niña this winter.

The onset of snowfall has been delayed this year, but whenever a major Western Disturbance (WD) occurs over the Himalayas, heavy snowfall occurs.

These snow events, coupled with cold and dry air from recent cyclones, cold weather and snowpack, will continue to impact the north Indian region next week.

States like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh saw a drop in minimum temperature and a maximum drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius.

Unstable weather conditions in northern India this year indicate a transition from El Niño to La Niña this winter.

El Niño and La Niña are phases of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), a climate pattern in the Pacific Ocean. El Niño affects global weather by causing the surface of the oceans to warm; La Niña, on the other hand, is a cold season that brings colder weather and a different climate.

Forecasts show that the temperature in urban areas like Delhi and NCR region will drop to 6-10 degrees Celsius, while in rural areas of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chandigarh, the temperature will be 3-8 degrees Celsius.

Parts of western Uttar Pradesh will also be colder with temperatures expected to be 5-11°C.

Especially cold weather will result in frost in areas with normal frost like Churu, Sikar and so on. Fatehpur Shekhawati.

As cold and dry weather continues to spread across the plains, daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 23-26 degrees Celsius over the weekend.

Despite climate change, many meteorological stations in these regions are still operating. There is still dry weather.
