In a commendable move, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, visited the Pune Police Commissioner’s office on Saturday to honor the crime branch and anti-narcotics team for their pivotal role in cracking down on the drug network in Pune. He extended his appreciation to the diligent officers and announced a reward of Rs25 lakh for the Pune police team responsible for dismantling the racket.
The Pune police recently achieved a significant breakthrough, seizing approximately 1,800 kilograms of mephedrone valued at a staggering Rs 3,600 crore in the international market through raids conducted at various locations across the city. During his visit, Deputy CM and Home Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, addressed the police officials, acknowledging their relentless efforts in combating the drug menace within Pune.
Fadnavis hailed the Pune Police’s proactive action against drugs as one of the most substantial crackdowns in recent times. He underscored the importance of fostering a drug-free environment in Maharashtra, aligning with the nationwide campaign led by Home Minister Amit Shah to achieve the same objective for India.
Emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance on drugs, Fadnavis highlighted the detrimental impact of substance abuse on youth, likening it to a graver threat than conventional weapons. He underscored the potential harm that could have ensued if the seized drugs had made their way to end-users.
Commending Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar for spearheading the operation, Fadnavis applauded the collective efforts of the entire team. He emphasized the necessity for sustained vigilance and called for a thorough investigation to uncover all associated linkages, irrespective of their scale. Fadnavis urged the identification of all individuals and routes involved in the illicit drug trade to ensure effective measures against such criminal activities.
