CM Kejriwal Moves Motion of Confidence in Delhi Assembly

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved a Motion of Confidence in the Delhi Assembly following his allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting to poach AAP MLAs and topple his government. The assembly proceedings are scheduled for Saturday, where the motion will be taken up for discussion. The House has been adjourned till tomorrow as this marks the fifth Budget session of the seventh Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, expected to continue until February 21.

Kejriwal had earlier accused the BJP of conspiring against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging that some of his party MLAs were offered bribes to defect. He stated that the BJP approached seven MLAs with promises of arrest against him, followed by inducements to leave AAP and contest elections on BJP tickets. Kejriwal emphasized that despite the alleged attempts, all contacted MLAs remained loyal to AAP.

Asserting the BJP’s persistent efforts to undermine the AAP government, Kejriwal highlighted the party’s recognition of AAP’s significant contributions to Delhi despite obstacles. He suggested that the BJP’s motive lies in its inability to defeat AAP in elections, hence resorting to underhand tactics.

Senior AAP leader Atishi echoed Kejriwal’s sentiments, claiming that BJP’s Operation Lotus 2.0 aims to destabilize the democratically elected AAP government by offering bribes and making threats to AAP MLAs. She emphasized that BJP’s history of using similar tactics in other states exemplifies its approach to seize power undemocratically.

The situation underscores heightened political tensions in Delhi, with the AAP government striving to maintain stability amidst allegations of BJP’s machinations.
