Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister MK Stalin reaffirmed Tamil Nadu’s commitment to the two-language policy, rejecting any attempt to impose a third language in the state. His remarks came in response to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who had urged Tamil Nadu to “rise above politics.”
Strong Response from Stalin
Criticizing the Centre, Stalin accused the BJP-led government of playing politics with Tamil Nadu, alleging blackmail over the trilingual policy and central funding.
“Is demanding acceptance of the trilingual policy in exchange for fund release not politics? Is pushing Hindi under NEP not politics? Is turning a multilingual nation into a single-language country not politics?” he questioned.
Stalin also issued a stern warning to the Centre: “Do not throw stones at a beehive. As long as DMK exists, no anti-Tamil Nadu policies will be allowed.”
Political Row Over Hindi Imposition
The debate over Hindi imposition has sparked tensions between Tamil Nadu and the Centre. CM Stalin maintains that Tamil Nadu will resist any forced language policies, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized unity among Indian languages.
With language politics resurfacing, the Tamil Nadu government stands firm on its two-language formula, rejecting what it sees as an attempt to dilute linguistic diversity.
