Congress Extends Bihar Day Greetings, Calls for Upholding Democracy

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge extended warm wishes to the people of Bihar on Bihar Day, emphasizing the state’s historical significance in championing democracy. In a statement on X, Kharge highlighted Bihar’s pivotal role in India’s fight against British colonial rule, urging the state to once again safeguard democracy and uphold constitutional values.

Bihar Day, commemorated annually on March 22, marks the establishment of the state of Bihar in 1912 when it was separated from Bengal. This day holds significance as a public holiday in Bihar, symbolizing the state’s rich heritage and cultural identity.

Rahul Gandhi also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Bihar, acknowledging the state’s profound contributions to India’s cultural and intellectual landscape. In his statement on X, Gandhi praised Bihar’s historical legacy, stating that it has long served as a beacon of knowledge and wisdom for the nation.

Amidst the celebrations, Bihar gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to be held in seven phases. The polling will commence on April 19 and continue until June 1, reflecting the state’s crucial role in shaping India’s political landscape.

In a significant development, Jan Adhikar Party leader Pappu Yadav merged his party with the Congress ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Yadav’s influence in the Seemanchal region of Bihar adds strategic value to the Congress party’s electoral prospects in the state.

In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA alliance, comprising the BJP, JDU, and LJP, secured a landslide victory, clinching 39 out of 40 seats. Conversely, the Mahagathbandhan alliance, led by RJD, INC, and RLSP, managed to win only one seat, underscoring the political dynamics in Bihar.

With the Lok Sabha elections fast approaching, the spotlight is on Bihar as it prepares to chart the course of India’s democratic journey once again.
