Launching an awareness campaign for the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) in Baran district, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge underscored the stark contrast between the BJP’s mere lip service to the welfare of the impoverished and the Congress’s unwavering dedication to improve the lives of underprivileged citizens.
Kharge emphasized the tangible impact of Congress’s initiatives, particularly the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), in uplifting the less privileged. He lambasted the BJP for its hollow promises, highlighting the lack of concrete financial allocations for the underprivileged.
In his address to the people of Baran, Rajasthan, Kharge reiterated, “All the work done by Congress party, like MGNREGA, is for the benefit of the poor. The MGNREGA project is happening on a very large scale here. The money for MGNREGA that is spent – we don’t get it quickly. They (BJP) merely pays lip service for the welfare of the impoverished, while the Congress actively strives to improve the lives of underprivileged citizens… Whose government do you want, one who works or the one who only lies?”
Expressing disappointment, Kharge highlighted the failure of the BJP despite the election of 25 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from Rajasthan in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, as they were unable to secure necessary funds or water resources for the region. He further emphasized a new irrigation project promised twice by PM Modi, where the Congress government invested Rs 25,000 crores to drive it forward, while the Modi government did not provide any financial support.
Kharge also asserted that the establishment of a Congress government in Rajasthan would lead the party to ascend to power at the Centre in 2024, echoing his belief in the potential for broader positive changes.
The upcoming Rajasthan Assembly, comprising 200 seats, is scheduled for contestation on November 25, 2023. It is notable that the Congress had secured a victory in the previous 2018 elections with 101 seats. While the Congress is yet to release its list of candidates in the state, the BJP has already unveiled its first list, nominating 7 MPs for the upcoming assembly polls in Rajasthan.
According to the state party president, Govind Singh Dotasra, the Congress is set to kickstart its election campaign for the forthcoming assembly election in Rajasthan on October 16, with the slogan “Kaam Kiya Dil se, Congress Sarkar Phir se,” reflecting the party’s strong emphasis on its track record of sincere work and its vision for the future.
