Arman Iqbal Khatri, 19, was detained by the Mumbai Police Special Investigation Team in connection with the Darshan Solanki suicide case.
Arman Iqbal Khatri’s arrest has been verified by SIT chief Lakhmi Gautam (Joint Commissioner Crime). Officials stated that the arrest was made following the submission of a report by handwriting experts confirming that the one-line suicide note matches Solanki’s handwriting.
Khatri was arrested under Section 306 of the Atrocities Act and other applicable clauses.
Solanki, a first-year B Tech (Chemical) student from Ahmedabad in Gujarat, allegedly committed himself on February 12 by jumping off the seventh storey of a hostel building on the IITB campus in suburban Powai.

The Mumbai police’s Special Investigation Team recently received a report from a handwriting expert stating that the handwriting in the supposed suicide note seized from the institute’s dormitories matched the deceased’s writing samples, confirming that it was authored by him.
The Maharashtra government established the SIT to investigate Solanki’s killing.
His family alleged that he was discriminated against at the renowned institute because he belonged to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, and they suspected foul play in his death. However, the IITB investigating committee ruled out caste-based discrimination and suggested that poor academic performance was a likely cause of suicide.
