In three instances, the Customs Department seized 951.65 grams of gold worth Rs 48,85,562 at Kochi airport. First, based on the profiling done by the officers of the Customs AIU batch, a passenger on flight J9-405 from Kuwait to Kochi was intercepted through the Green Channel. During the interrogation of the said passenger, five raw gold chains weighing 700.85 grams and two gold bangles of 24-carat purity hidden in the passenger’s body were recovered and seized.
The cost of gold is Rs 36,01,795. The accused is a woman who is a native of the Kollam district. Further action in this regard is under process. In another instance, based on APIS profiling done by the Customs AIU batch officers, a passenger on flight IX-434 from Dubai to Kochi was intercepted at Green Channel. During the interrogation of the said passenger, three gold pieces weighing 125.45 grams each of 24-carat purity, which were cleverly concealed inside a juice bottle and inside the mouth of the passenger, were recovered and seized.
The cost of gold is Rs 6,44,710. The accused has been identified as Abdullah, a native of the Kasaragod district. Further action in this regard is under process. In the third instance, based on APIS profiling done by the officers of the Customs AIU batch, a passenger on flight IX-434 arriving at Cochin International Airport from Dubai was intercepted in the Green Channel. During the search of the passenger, three gold cut pieces weighing 125.35 grams each of 24-carat purity, which were cleverly concealed inside a juice bottle and inside the mouth of the passenger, were recovered and seized. The cost of gold is Rs 6,39,057. The accused has been identified as Abubakar, a native of the Kasaragod district. Further action in this regard is under process.
