As Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain resigned from the cabinet after being investigated for their alleged involvement in the national capital’s liquor scam, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Shankar Prasad attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday, branding it a party of the “3Cs” – cut, commission, and corruption.
Addressing the media persons, Prasad said, “We have learnt that Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain have resigned. Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal accepted Satyendar Jain’s resignation after nine months. Manish Sisodia should have resigned the moment such scandalous allegations came to light.”
According to the BJP leader, VIPs involved in the liquor scam have changed hundreds of phones, and Sisodia has changed his phone 16 times. He claimed that Kejriwal and Sisodia, who promised to build schools, are now selling liquor.
“You had said that schools will be opened… You are selling liquor. There is nowhere in India that the one who is the Education Minister is also the liquor minister,” Prasad said.
He claimed that people who claimed to be anti-corruption crusaders and used to name corrupt and honest public figures have ensured governance that has increased the number of alcohol users in Delhi.
“If Manish Sisodia has any moral compass left, he should have resigned then. His bail plea in the Supreme Court was that he looks after 18 departments. He was keen to run departments and not to explain such allegations. AAP’s conduct is 3Cs — ‘Cut, Commission and Corruption’,” added the BJP leader.
Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, both Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and Delhi ministers, resigned from their positions in the state cabinet on Tuesday. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister, accepted their resignation.
Their resignations have now been forwarded to Delhi LG VK Saxena. The news comes just two days after Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.
Sisodia was arrested on Sunday as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s excise policy. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court refused to hear Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s petition challenging his arrest in connection with the excise policy case on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court advised Sisodia to appeal to the Delhi High Court. A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud stated that the court is unlikely to hear the petition at this time and advised Sisodia to appeal to the Delhi High Court.
“It cannot intervene in the matter because it may open the door to people approaching the Supreme Court in every such case,” the court stated.
On Monday, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi sentenced him to 5 days in CBI custody. In contrast, the CBI has questioned AAP leader Satyendar Jain in Tihar Jail about alleged corruption in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy.
Jain is currently incarcerated in Judicial Custody in connection with another money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
His name was mentioned in the matter, along with that of another Delhi cabinet minister and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Several arrests have recently been made by the CBI and ED for alleged corruption in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy.
