Following a late-night medical check-up conducted by a medical team at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Delhi, concerns over the safety and security of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have been heightened. The medical team’s departure on Saturday morning marked the latest development in the ongoing saga surrounding Kejriwal’s arrest and subsequent custody.
Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister Atishi voiced apprehension about Kejriwal’s safety, highlighting the unprecedented nature of a sitting Chief Minister being detained and expressing concerns regarding his Z+ security cover. Atishi’s statements underscored the tense atmosphere surrounding Kejriwal’s detention by the Central Government’s ED.
The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi had on Friday ordered Kejriwal to be remanded to ED custody for seven days, extending until March 28. This decision came in the wake of a dramatic arrest at Kejriwal’s residence, where the AAP convener was taken into custody amidst a probe into alleged irregularities and money laundering related to the Delhi excise policy case of 2022.
AAP supporters rallied behind Kejriwal following his arrest, while members of the INDIA bloc also offered their solidarity. In contrast, BJP leaders voiced support for the ED’s actions, emphasizing the pursuit of truth in the face of allegations.
The case revolves around alleged improprieties in formulating and executing the Delhi excise policy of 2022, which was subsequently annulled. Kejriwal’s lawyer, Madan Lal, provided insights into the legal proceedings, stating that the ED sought a 10-day remand to trace the money trail, citing purported ill-gotten funds used during the Goa elections. The court, however, granted a six-day custodial remand, with Kejriwal scheduled to appear again on March 28.
As the legal battle ensues, Kejriwal’s custody and the allegations against him continue to dominate headlines, reflecting the intensity of the political climate surrounding the case.
