Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain resign from their posts

Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, both Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and Delhi ministers, resigned from their positions in the state cabinet on Tuesday. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister, accepted their resignation. Their resignations have now been forwarded to Delhi LG VK Saxena. The news comes just two days after Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

Sisodia was arrested on Sunday as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s excise policy. The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to hear Manish Sisodia’s petition challenging his arrest in connection with the excise policy case.

The Supreme Court advised Sisodia to appeal to the Delhi High Court. A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud stated that the court is unlikely to hear the petition at this time and advised Sisodia to appeal to the Delhi High Court.

“It can not interfere in the matter as it may open the gate of people approaching the top court in every such matter,” the court remarked.

On Monday, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi sentenced him to 5 days in CBI custody. In connection with alleged corruption in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned Delhi’s Minister Satyendar Jain in Tihar Jail.

Jain is currently incarcerated in Judicial Custody in connection with another money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). His name was mentioned in the matter, along with that of another Delhi cabinet minister and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Taliking to NewsX Abhinandita said, “As far as the law is concerned, unfortunately especially with ED and CBI and money laundary laws it is very hard to get bail.”

According to the lawyers involved, the CBI has also questioned Vijay Nair, who is also being held in Tihar Jail in connection with the ED case involving the Excise policy. Nair was previously granted bail in a CBI case by the Trial Court. Several arrests have recently been made by the CBI and ED for alleged corruption in the implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy.
