The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) has notified that an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale jolted Delhi-NCR on Sunday. The NCS, responsible for tracking seismic activity on behalf of the Union government, reported that this was the second instance within a span of two weeks that the region had experienced a tremor.
The tremors were observed at 4.08 pm. The NCS shared the specifics of the earthquake from its official X account, stating, “An earthquake of Magnitude 3.1 occurred on 15-10-2023 at 16:08:16 IST, with the epicenter at Latitude: 28.41 and Longitude: 77.41, at a depth of 10 Km, near Faridabad, Haryana, approximately 9km to the east.”
This recent incident marked the second occurrence in a span of two weeks where seismic activity rattled the national capital. Earlier, on October 3, the Delhi-NCR area experienced significant tremors, prompting locals to hastily vacate their homes and workplaces in a state of alarm.
In a press release, the NCS disclosed that the tremors were a result of two earthquakes that struck Nepal on October 3. The first earthquake measured 4.6 on the Richter scale, while the second recorded a magnitude of 6.2.
