Sanjay Arora, the Commissioner of Delhi Police, has penned a letter to the Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Vikas Kumar, appealing for the commencement of Metro services in the national capital at 4:00 am on September 8, 9, and 10. This request is aimed at facilitating the smooth commute of police personnel responsible for security arrangements during the upcoming G20 summit.
The letter, which emphasized the importance of timely and efficient transportation for law enforcement and support staff, highlighted the anticipated traffic restrictions in key areas, particularly the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and South West District regions, due to the summit. Commencing Metro services at 4:00 am on the specified dates, according to the Commissioner, would enable hassle-free travel for staff and ensure their punctual arrival at the two primary venues, namely the India Exposition Mart (IECC)/India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and Rajghat.
Commissioner Arora explained, “Considering that preparations at the Summit Venue, i.e., IECC, ITPO, and Rajghat, will commence in the early morning hours, staff reporting times for these venues have been scheduled to begin from 5:00 AM onwards.”
With the G20 summit approaching in the national capital, the Delhi Police, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has established comprehensive security, law and order, and traffic arrangements involving approximately 40,000 personnel. These arrangements are set to be fully deployed starting from September 7.
In his letter, Arora extended a request to the DMRC to accommodate this request as a welfare measure for the Delhi Police staff and other assisting agencies throughout the summit’s duration. He also noted that Special Commissioner of Police (Transport Division) Nuzhat Hassan would be available to provide any necessary clarifications and details for the implementation of this request.
India is preparing to host the G20 Summit in New Delhi from September 9 to 10, where world leaders will convene. The summit will take place at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Notably, India took on the G20 presidency on December 1 of the previous year, with approximately 200 meetings related to the G20 held in 60 cities across the country in the lead-up to the event.
