Delhi Receives Rain, IMD Predicts More Showers; Alerts Issued for Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh

On Wednesday morning, parts of Delhi experienced rainfall, with the minimum temperature recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius, slightly below the season’s average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a humidity level of 92 percent at 8:30 am.

Widespread Monsoon Conditions

The monsoon continues to affect various parts of the country. The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and the Northeastern states on August 7. This alert signifies the potential for significant weather impacts and advises residents to be prepared.

Impact on Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh has been severely impacted by heavy rains, leading to floods and landslides. These natural disasters have caused extensive damage, including loss of lives and destruction of infrastructure. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 85 roads, including two National Highways, are currently closed due to landslides and heavy rainfall. Additionally, 116 electricity supply schemes and 65 water supply schemes have been disrupted.

Forecast for Other States

The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in several other states, including Jammu Division, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, southwest Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, parts of Northeast India, Tamil Nadu, and Goa.

Rain in Delhi-NCR

In Delhi-NCR, a cyclonic storm originating from Rajasthan is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, according to Skymet. Despite the anticipated rain, humidity levels in Delhi and its neighboring areas are expected to remain high throughout the week.

Earlier this week, on Monday, some parts of Delhi received light rainfall accompanied by strong surface winds ranging from 30-40 kmph. So far, Delhi has recorded 114.1mm of rainfall in August, compared to the monthly average of 233.1mm.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during this period of active monsoon conditions.
