The owner of a cloth showroom died as the building’s roof collapsed on Thursday near Subzi Mandi police station, police said.
The owner, identified as Anil Gupta was taken to St. Stephen Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
The police said that Anil Gupta was reportedly closing the shutter of the shop when all of a sudden the roof collapsed, trapping the owner.
“This incident took place when the owner was closing the shutter of the shop then all of a sudden the roof collapsed. There is no other floor in the shop. The roof of the shop is of iron girders.” Police said.

Fire Brigade, ambulance, and electricity officials were called to rescue the trapped owner. Anil Gupta was rescued and taken to St. Stephen Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
In another incident, a fire broke out in a plastic factory in Delhi’s Mayapuri area on Thursday morning, officials said.
According to the Delhi Fire Services Department, plastic material kept inside the factory was destroyed in the fire which broke out at around 9:30 am.
Upon receiving information, four fire brigade vehicles were sent to the spot and started an operation to douse the fire.
It took around an hour for fire services staff and officials to bring the fire under control. No casualties or injuries were reported, officials said.
