A tragic accident occurred on a cricket ground in the Ranhola area of outer Delhi on Saturday, resulting in the death of a 13-year-old boy due to electrocution. The incident took place around 1:30 pm, prompting an emergency response after a PCR call was received.
According to police reports, the boy was playing cricket at the Kotla Vihar Phase-2 ground when he was shocked by an iron pole that was carrying electric wires to a nearby gaushala. He had gone to retrieve the ball when he accidentally came into contact with the electrified pole. The immediate response from those present involved rushing him to the hospital in a PCR van, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
An FIR has been filed under Section 106(1) BNS, and an investigation is currently underway, as confirmed by the officials.
This incident follows a similar tragedy last month in Patel Nagar, where a 26-year-old civil services aspirant, Nilesh Rai, lost his life due to electrocution. Rai had accidentally touched an iron gate that was in contact with an exposed wire from a water pump. A magisterial probe was conducted by the Patel Nagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) into his death.
Delhi Government and LG Clash Over Rani Khera Drownings
In other news, a heated dispute has emerged between the Delhi government and Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena over the recent drownings of two teenage boys in a rainwater-filled pit in Rani Khera. The land where the incident occurred is under the possession of the Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC).
The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the LG of attempting to deflect blame. The party’s statement criticized Saxena for a recent notification concerning an industrial park in Baprola, suggesting that he should take responsibility for the Rani Khera deaths, as he has been directly handling DSIIDC land matters for the past two years.
In response, Raj Niwas officials stated that the DSIIDC is under the control of the industry minister from the elected AAP government. They accused the LG of bypassing the elected government in dealing with land-related issues, further fueling the ongoing dispute between the two parties.
