The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu has concluded its seat-sharing negotiations with two alliance partners ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Chief Minister and Party President MK Stalin formalized the agreement after weeks of discussions with allies.
Under this arrangement, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a longstanding ally of the DMK, has been granted the opportunity to contest from the Ramanathapuram Parliament Constituency. Meanwhile, the Namakkal Parliament constituency has been allocated to the Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi. This announcement signifies the initial allocation from the DMK to its allies, setting the stage for collaborative efforts in the electoral arena.
In a parallel development, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar issued a stern warning to political parties regarding the “zero-tolerance policy” towards the “misuse of money” during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Joined by senior officials of the Election Commission of India, Kumar conducted a comprehensive two-day review of Tamil Nadu’s preparedness for the elections.
Addressing a press conference, Kumar reiterated the Election Commission’s unwavering commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections. He emphasized the imperative of conducting inducement-free voting. The Chief Election Commissioner, along with Election Commissioner Arun Goel and other officials, visited Chennai to oversee preparatory activities. This visit was part of the Commission’s broader efforts to uphold the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
During their time in Chennai, the delegation engaged in discussions with representatives from various recognized political parties. These discussions encompassed crucial aspects such as polling station arrangements and the enforcement of the electoral code of conduct, underscoring the collaborative approach towards facilitating a smooth and fair electoral process in Tamil Nadu.
