The multi-day firefight between a joint team of Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and terrorists in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district continues, with the use of drones and quadcopters on Friday to locate and neutralize the militants.

During this operation that began on Wednesday, security forces have employed quadcopters and drones to aid in their efforts to track down the terrorists. Tragically, an Army Colonel leading a Quick Response Team (QRT) from the Rashtriya Rifles lost his life in the ongoing battle.

The Army officers and DSP who lost their lives were identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak, and Humayun Bhat. Major Ashish Dhonchak’s mortal remains were brought to his hometown in Panipat, bringing sorrow to the local community. DSP Bhat’s last rites were conducted in Budgam.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, expressed condolences for the officers’ deaths in the encounter and paid tribute to the slain DSP in Budgam.

In a separate incident, security forces eliminated two terrorists in the Narla area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri. During a search conducted amid the encounter that extended into Wednesday evening, security forces discovered warlike supplies, including medicines with markings from Pakistan.
