Ahead of Quad’s foreign minister’s meeting, India’s external minister S Jaishankar meets US Secretary of state Antony Blinken in Tokyo on Sunday.
During their meeting, both the ministers discussed bilateral relations, and as per Jaishankar’s X account, they also discussed various regional and global issues.
Meanwhile, India’s external affairs minister is on Tokyo’s visit and he has initiated the visit by unveiling Mahatma Gandhi’s bust at Edogawa ward.
Notably, the external affairs minister came to Tokyo from Laos’s capital Vientiane, where he participated in various ASEAN-associated meetings.
Tomorrow on Monday, Quad’s foreign meeting is anticipated to review work carried out by working groups across various sectors and discuss the plans for the Quad Leaders Summit, which India will host this year.
In this meeting, quad foreign ministers are most likely to enhance cooperation in important areas like infrastructure, supply chains, connectivity, research, counterterrorism, maritime security, and responses to humanitarian and disaster situations.
As for Quad Leaders Summit, the dates are yet to be decided. According to sources familiar with the matter, as US is busy with November’s presidential election and Japan’s PM Fumio Kishida is dealing with political problems.
Currently, the Quad members are considering the possibility to potentially host the summit simultaneously with the UN General Assembly. Which is going to be held in New York on September.
