EC Issues Notice To Atishi Singh Over BJP’s Poaching Attempt

The Election Commission of India has issued a notice to Delhi Minister Atishi regarding a suspected violation of the electoral code, shortly after she made allegations of being offered membership in the BJP or facing potential arrest.

Atishi, a prominent figure within AAP now entrusted with managing party affairs following Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent detainment, has been requested to submit her response by 5 pm this Saturday.

Earlier this week, the Delhi Education Minister asserted that the BJP had approached her, suggesting she switch parties to safeguard her political future.

“They approached me through someone very close. They urged me to join their party, assuring it would secure my political career. They also cautioned that if I declined, the Enforcement Directorate would arrest me within a month,” she alleged on Tuesday.

These allegations prompted a defamation notice from the BJP and a call for a public apology. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva pointed out Atishi’s failure to provide evidence regarding who approached her, how, and when.

“The AAP is grappling with internal turmoil in Delhi, leading them to make unsubstantiated accusations out of desperation. However, we will not allow her to evade accountability for these claims,” he stated.
