Jammu and Kashmir has been without an elected government since June 2018, following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) withdrawal of support from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP)-led coalition.
On Thursday, a delegation from the Election Commission (EC) met with various political party representatives in Srinagar. This visit marks the beginning of a two-day trip to Jammu and Kashmir to assess the readiness for the first assembly elections in the Union Territory since 2014.
