The Election Commission announced the schedule for the 7-phase Lok Sabha election 2024, starting from April 19 and ending with results on June 4.
The model code of conduct is now in force, with a focus on maintaining decorum and fostering positive political discourse.
The EC issued a 10-point advisory to political parties, emphasizing:
1. Inspiring political discourse over divisive rhetoric.
2. Campaigning based on issues rather than personal attacks.
3. Zero tolerance for hate speeches.
4. Avoidance of caste or religious appeals.
5. No criticism of private life aspects.
6. Learning from past violations to ensure civilised campaigning.
7. Refraining from unverified or misleading advertisements.
8. Clear distinction between advertisements and news content.
9. Social media posts should not vilify or insult rivals.
10. Star campaigners are responsible for maintaining decorum during campaigning.
In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections will be held in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim (April 19), and Andhra Pradesh (May 13).
The EC’s focus on responsible campaigning aims to ensure a fair and respectful electoral process for all stakeholders.
