The Enforcement Directorate (ED) submitted a supplementary charge sheet against former railway minister Lalu Prasad, his son Tejashwi Yadav, and eight others in connection with the land-for-jobs scam on Tuesday. This charge sheet was presented before Special Judge Vishal Gogne, who scheduled the matter for consideration on August 13.
The ED’s investigation originates from an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The case involves Group-D appointments in the West Central Zone of the railways in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as railway minister from 2004 to 2009. According to the ED, these appointments were made in exchange for land parcels that were gifted or transferred to the RJD supremo’s family or associates by the recruits.
In the charge sheet, the ED has detailed the alleged transactions and the manner in which land parcels were acquired by Lalu Prasad’s family. These transactions reportedly facilitated the appointments in the railway sector, thereby exploiting Prasad’s position as the railway minister.
The land-for-jobs scam has been a subject of intense scrutiny and legal action, with both the ED and CBI conducting thorough investigations to uncover the extent of the alleged corruption. This latest charge sheet adds to the legal challenges faced by Lalu Prasad and his family, further intensifying the spotlight on their political and personal dealings.
