Congress leader KC Venugopal criticized the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has become a tool of the government for carrying out vendetta politics against the opposition.
“We are with Aam Aadmi Party and Kejriwal ji… ED has become a weapon of the government for vendetta politics against the opposition,” Venugopal stated in an interview with ANI.
He further accused the BJP of resorting to vendetta politics against opposition leaders because they know they cannot win on their own. Venugopal characterized this move as an attempt to transform India into an autocratic country.
In the midst of these developments, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal withdrew his petition from the Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi excise policy case linked to a money laundering case.
“Because (ED) remand is clashing, decided to withdraw it… will fight the remand and come back to your Lordships,” said senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
Earlier, during a protest organized by AAP against Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED, several party leaders, including Delhi Ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi, were detained by the Delhi police. The protest took place at the ITO in the national capital.
Atishi, in a post on X, stated, “I have been detained by Delhi Police while peacefully protesting at ITO. First these people arrest the Chief Minister of Delhi in a false case, and then the peaceful protesters are also being arrested. If this is not murder of democracy then what is it?”
The Enforcement Directorate had reached Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday to interrogate him regarding the liquor policy case. Kejriwal was arrested during a search operation at his residence after failing to obtain interim protection from arrest in the liquor policy case from the Delhi High Court.
