Election Commission Set To Reveal Lok Sabha Election Schedule Today

The Election Commission of India is set to announce the polling schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and some state Assembly elections on Saturday, according to a spokesperson for the commission. The announcement will be made during a press conference scheduled for 3 pm on Saturday.

The spokesperson of the Election Commission posted on X, stating, “The Election Commission will hold a press conference to unveil the timetable for #GeneralElections2024 and select State Assemblies at 3 pm tomorrow, Saturday, 16th March. The event will be live-streamed on the ECI’s social media platforms.”

In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, polling occurred over seven phases from April 11 to May 19, with results declared on May 23. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 303 seats, surpassing the opposition party’s 52 seats.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar mentioned earlier in the week that the Election Commission would determine whether to hold the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections together or separately in Jammu and Kashmir after assessing the security situation.

Political parties have begun announcing their candidates for the upcoming elections, with the BJP and Congress releasing two candidate lists each so far.

Additionally, the Election Commission uploaded data on electoral bonds received from SBI on its website on March 14. Notably, Future Gaming and Hotel Services and Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd were among the leading donors to political parties.

Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging amendments made to different statutes through the Finance Acts of 2017 and 2016, arguing that they have facilitated unlimited and unregulated funding for political parties.
