The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce the schedule for Assembly elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand today at 3 pm. Sources indicate that only Jammu and Kashmir’s elections and UP bye elections date will be announced as Haryana rajya sabha election is still pending.
The ECI will hold a press conference to outline the general election schedule for the legislative assemblies of these states. The Assembly elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand are due within the next five months, with the current terms ending on November 3 in Maharashtra, November 26 in Haryana, and January in Jharkhand.
Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir’s elections are pending, with the Supreme Court mandating that they be held by September 30. The region has been without an elected government since 2018. Previously, the ECI conducted elections in Maharashtra and Haryana together, while Jharkhand’s elections were held separately.
The announcement will provide the timeline for key stages, including the nomination process, polling days, and the results declaration. The ECI has recently visited Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana to assess election readiness but has not yet conducted a review in Maharashtra.
