DGCA issues show cause notice to Go First for its failure to continue operation

DGCA issues show cause notice to Go Airlines (India) Limited (Go First) for their failure to continue the operation of the service in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner in light of the sudden cancellation of flights and initiation of corporate insolvency resolution process under IBC.

The airline operator has been asked to respond within 15 days of receiving this notice, and any decision on the continuation of their Air Operators Certificate (AOC) will be based on their response. The DGCA also ordered Go First to stop booking and selling tickets, directly or indirectly, with immediate effect and until further orders are issued. Due to operational reasons, Go First cancelled all flights until May 12, the airline announced on Friday.

“We regret to inform you that due to operational reasons, Go First flights scheduled till May 12, 2023 have been cancelled. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the flight cancellations. A full refund will be issued to the original mode of payment shortly. We acknowledge the flight cancellations might have disrupted your travel plans and we are committed to providing all the assistance we can,” said the Go First statement.

Previously, the civil aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), examined Go First’s response and ordered the carrier to process passenger refunds.

The DGCA stated in a statement that Goes First has informed them that they have suspended the sale of their flights until May 15, 2023, and that they are working to refund or reschedule the passengers who have already booked to fly with them for future dates.

After facing an acute cash crunch, the beleaguered Wadia Group-led airlines, Go First, pleaded to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) here on Thursday for an interim moratorium. The airline has also requested guidance on appointing an insolvency resolution process (IRP) for the benefit of Go First.
Following the hearing, the NCLT reserved its decision on Go Airlines’ petition.
