Four people were arrested and a total of 12,143 rolls of “illicit” Chinese manja were recovered during multiple operations in different parts of Delhi, a statement released on Friday said. The operations were carried out by the Central Range and Cyber Cell teams of the Crime Branch.
“Four accused persons have been arrested after three cases were registered at the Crime Branch police station,” the statement added.
In the first operation, a trap was laid in the Rohini area following inputs, and a shop and a godown in Sector 7 were raided, where 11,820 rolls of Chinese manja were recovered. A shopkeeper was arrested after the police registered a case.
Another accused, Adnan, was arrested during the investigation after 23 rolls were recovered from his possession.
In the second operation, Mohd Akib, a resident of Bhajanpura, New Delhi, was arrested following a raid. He had 240 rolls in his possession. He was arrested after the police registered a case.
In a similar exercise, Asjad, a resident of Azad Market, Delhi, was apprehended during a raid when 60 rolls were recovered from his possession. He was arrested after a case was registered.
“Accused Asjad disclosed that he is a second-year BA student and also works as a website designer in Azad Market, Delhi. He purchased the recovered Chinese manja from Islam, a resident of Kolkata, West Bengal, through WhatsApp. He was selling the manja to earn quick money,” the statement added.
“Efforts are being made to trace the source of the illicit manja,” it said.
