Fresh Snowfall in Ladakh Brings Joy to Locals and Tourists

Ladakh, famously known as the “Land of High Passes,” is currently adorned with a fresh layer of snow, bringing joy to both locals and tourists. The picturesque scenes following the recent snowfall have transformed the region into a winter wonderland.

Drass, a picturesque village in Kargil, often referred to as the ‘Gateway to Ladakh,’ transformed into a winter wonderland as it adorned itself with a pristine white covering of snow. Images captured the serene scene of a villager clearing snow from his doorstep, surrounded by gently falling flakes.

Elsewhere in the district, trees stood adorned in white, their branches delicately draped with snow, while vehicles disappeared under thick layers, blending seamlessly with the snowy landscape.

The recent snowfall comes as a much-needed relief for Ladakh, especially for Kargil, which experienced its first significant snowfall just two weeks ago. For local farmers like Mohd Sadiq from Goma in Kargil, this snowfall holds promise for a productive summer, offering hope amidst a prolonged dry winter.

Authorities in the villages expressed optimism about the impact of the snowfall on water reserves and agricultural conditions, anticipating a positive outcome for the region’s farming community.

In neighboring regions, Sawjian Village in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir also witnessed fresh snowfall, adding to the picturesque charm of the area. Meanwhile, Gulmarg, renowned for its enchanting winter landscapes, attracted foreign skiers and adventure enthusiasts following recent snowfall in the higher reaches of the valley.

Winter months, from November to February, envelop Ladakh in a thick layer of snow, creating a scenic spectacle across the region. Despite the chilly temperatures, the beauty of Ladakh during this time captivates visitors, with average temperatures ranging between -25 to -10 degrees Celsius.
